Folding cartons, so called because they are glued and supplied flat for you to fold up as you pack your product. They are produced mainly on solid coated board in thickness ranging from around 0.4mm to 0.7mm. There are various layouts for the tops and bases, with each type having different practical and economical uses, which need to be considered.

The main styles are:

  • Auto crash base - Automatically makes thebase as it pops up
  • Envelope Base - Best for heavier items as the base flaps lock against each other once the goods are in the carton
  • Hanging cartons - These usually have a double thickness card about 30mm deep with a Euroslot to hang in store
  • Reverse tuck end - One tuck flap is attached to the front panel and one to the back panel
  • Tuck end - Most common, both top and bottom flaps come from back of carton

Autocrash Base Carton

This carton has a normal tuck in top, but the base is comprised of 4 panels which interlock and are glued together and pushed up inside the carton at the time of manufacture. The base drops into place as the carton is erected automatically, this is great for long runs as makeup time is fast. The setup cost for the extra glueing operation is quite high so short runs can be more expensive.

Corrugated Retail Packs

The requirement here was for a natural looking pack which could hold a variety of magnetic products. The information was to be conveyed on glossy printed sleeves. This way a large proportion of the range fits into 3 sizes of carton with approximately 17 different sleeves. The carton is also unusual in that it is made from single faced double wall e-flute corrugated. This is manufactured by laminating 2 sheets of single faced card together with the fluting showing as a decorative effect. The resulting material is attractive to look at but extremely strong being around 2mm thick.

The Sleeves are printed on a white lined chipboard making the product pack almost 100% recycled.
